Tree Planting

Curriculum Breakdown – 8 Hours

The purpose of this 1 day course is to provide specific training pertaining to planting balled and burlapped (b&b), wire basket and container-grown trees.

The course composition has been designed to provide attendees with theoretical knowledge and practical training necessary to safely plant trees.  Our course utilizes specific instructional techniques to facilitate all learning styles, with a strong emphasis of delivering instruction sessions to promote improved confidence of all attendees.  Testing and assessment will be performed to provide attendees with timely feedback and skills improvement analysis criteria.  All successful candidates obtaining a passing score of 70% will receive a certificate of achievement.

By the end of this 1 day training seminar, successful trainees will be able to:


  • Describe the site, social, and economic factors to consider when selecting species for planting.
  • Learn how to specify and select a quality tree.
  • Understand what site characteristics can and cannot be modified before and after planting.
  • Describe planting techniques in natural areas and containers.
  • Discuss post-planting care.
  • Identify planting standards and specifications.
  • Safely plant trees in accordance with the ANSI A300 (Part 6) – 2012 Standard and ISA Best Management Practices for  Tree Planting.
