Equip yourself and your team with life-saving skills in our comprehensive Aerial Rescue Training Program. Our course is meticulously crafted from industry-leading standards, including WorkSafe BC Part 26, Tree Care Industry Association's Aerial Rescue Training Program, and ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations. Blended Training Approach
Our customized program begins with exclusive access to our online Aerial Rescue Core Classroom a week before the practical session. Dive into crucial lessons covering incident prevention, emergency response, rescue techniques, casualty care, and collaboration with Emergency Medical Responders. An 80% passing grade is required for participation in the practical training.
Hands-On Practical Session
Join us for an intensive one-day practical training session where you'll receive personalized instruction in various Aerial Rescue Scenarios. From Aerial Lift Ground Controls to Spar Pole Aerial Rescues, our goal is to prepare you for any emergency situation.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the core competencies of aerial rescue
Practice casualty care and climbing rescue scenarios
Experience diverse rescue scenarios with confidence
Who Can Attend:
While recommended, experience in arboriculture disciplines isn't mandatory. Whether you're an experienced arborist or an apprentice, this course caters to all skill levels. Attendees are required to bring mandatory P.P.E. and their standard tree climbing gear.
Certificate and Assessment:
Successful candidates scoring 70% or above will receive a certificate of achievement. Testing and assessment ensure continuous skills improvement and timely feedback.

Prerequisites:
While recommended, prior experience in arboriculture disciplines (spur climbing, spur-less climbing, basic rigging, and first aid) is not mandatory.
Attendees must bring mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) and their regularly used tree climbing gear.
Course Structure:
1. Online Aerial Rescue Core Classroom (Pre-Training):
Access to online modules covering incident prevention, emergency response, rescue techniques, and casualty care.
Passing grade of 80% required for participation in the practical training.
2. Practical Training (1-Day Session):
Location: Edward Hoegler Training Center for Arboriculture, Surrey, BC
Scenarios Covered:
Aerial Lift Ground Controls
Aerial Lift Bucket Evacuation
Spurless Aerial Rescues
Spar Pole Aerial Rescues
Stationary Rope Basal Lowering System Rescues
Hands-on instruction and training in various emergency scenarios.
Personal and climbing equipment that you should bring to the Aerial Rescue Field Practicum include:
Personal Protective Equipment in accordance with WorkSafe BC (hard hat, eye protection, work boots)
Appropriate clothing for tree climbing and outdoor activity
A bag to keep your personal and climbing equipment organized
Tree climbing rope(s) for Moving Rope Systems (MRS) and Stationary Rope Systems (SRS) in good condition, appropriate for arboriculture, compatible with your climbing system, minimum 80 ft length
Tree climbing saddle in good condition, appropriate for arboriculture
Life support carabiners for climbing in good condition, double-auto locking, minimum MBS 22kN
Work positioning device for use in MRS and SRS systems (friction hitch, micropulley, mechanical tools) in good condition, appropriate for arboriculture
Work positioning lanyard in good condition, appropriate for arboriculture
Spurs (climbing spikes) for use on a spar pole, appropriate for arboriculture
Climbing aids (ascenders, descenders, rope tools, lanyards, slings, connections, pulleys, anchors, friction savers, etc.) in good condition, appropriate for arboriculture
There will be a gear check prior to commencement of any ‘at heights’ activity. Participants should be familiar with their climbing systems, and will not be permitted to participate in activities should the participants fail to demonstrate competency with their climbing systems.
Certificates will be e-mailed to you upon successful completion of each component of the Aerial Rescue Program (spur-less climbing, spur climbing, basal lowering system, aerial lift evacuation, aerial lift lower ground control and extrication). Up to 11 ISA CEUs are available for certified arborists.
